Porches

The word porch comes from the latin 'porticus' meaning a projecting covering to the entrance of a house, church or other building. In Athens there is a very famous porch, the Stoa Poikile (painted Porch) which was the entrance to the school where Zeno of Cyprus taught the philosophy of 'Stoicism' circa 300BC.The origination of the word stoic is from the Greek 'stoa' meaning Porch.
